Nadia relies on Vera, her AI scheduling assistant, to manage almost every meeting in her calendar. Vera has learned her habits so well that it usually books things exactly the way Nadia would herself. It leaves buffer time before video calls and never double-books her lunch hour.
One Tuesday morning, Vera sends an alert that makes Nadia stop mid-coffee. "You have two conflicting commitments next Thursday at 3 p.m. One is a client presentation. The other is a video call labeled 'Mom — checkup follow-up.' Which would you like to keep?"
Nadia frowns, confused. She doesn't remember scheduling either of those for the same time. She'd also completely forgotten about her mother's checkup follow-up. She checks her email and realizes she promised to join that call weeks ago. The client meeting hadn't even been arranged yet.
The client presentation is important. Her manager has been counting on her to lead it, and rescheduling now would look unprofessional. But her mother's recent health scare is still fresh in her mind. Missing an update about the results would bother her for the rest of the week.
She asks Vera, half joking, "What would you do?"
"I'm not able to make personal decisions for you," Vera replies. "But your manager, Victor, has an open slot on Friday morning, if that helps."
That's exactly the information Nadia needed. She quickly messages her manager, who agrees to move the presentation to Friday without any trouble. Relieved, she confirms the change, and Vera automatically updates both calendars.
That evening, Nadia realizes something else. Without Vera flagging the conflict, she probably would have missed her mother's call, distracted by work as usual. She makes a small note to thank the assistant. Then she catches herself smiling at the idea of thanking a piece of software.
Still, she decides that from now on, she'll trust Vera's alerts more than her own overloaded memory.
