Magnus has piloted hot air balloons for almost fifteen years, and Opal has booked her very first ride. The morning starts calmly, with clear skies and only a gentle breeze. Neither of them expects the wind to shift so quickly.
Magnus pilota balões de ar quente há quase quinze anos, e Opal reservou o primeiro passeio da vida dela. A manhã começa tranquila, com céu limpo e apenas uma brisa leve. Nenhum dos dois espera que o vento mude de direção tão rápido.
Halfway through the flight, the breeze picks up and pushes the balloon well past the planned landing field. Magnus checks the map clipped to the basket and frowns slightly. "We might need to land somewhere new," he tells Opal, keeping his voice relaxed.
No meio do voo, a brisa fica mais forte e empurra o balão bem além do campo de pouso planejado. Magnus confere o mapa preso ao cesto e franze levemente a testa. "Pode ser que a gente precise pousar em outro lugar", ele diz a Opal, mantendo a voz tranquila.
Below them, farmland stretches out in every direction, with no obvious clearing in sight. Magnus spots a wide, empty field and begins the slow descent, adjusting the burner carefully. Opal grips the basket's edge, more excited than nervous now.

They land with a soft bump in the middle of someone's pasture, scattering a few curious sheep. A farmer walks over almost immediately, hands on his hips. He looks clearly confused by the giant balloon in his field. Magnus climbs out and explains what happened.

The farmer, it turns out, has always wanted to see a hot air balloon up close. He helps them fold the balloon. Then he offers them a ride back to the launch site in his truck. Opal decides this landing was better than a smooth one, in every way.

"If every flight ends like this, I'll book another one tomorrow," she tells Magnus on the drive back. He laughs and admits that in fifteen years, he has never landed in quite so many sheep before.
