Every morning, Dahlia stopped at the same coffee shop before work. She always ordered a small tea with honey. She sat at the corner table.
Setiap pagi, Dahlia mampir ke kedai kopi yang sama sebelum berangkat kerja. Ia selalu memesan teh kecil dengan madu. Ia duduk di meja pojok.
A man came in most mornings too. He always ordered the same strange drink. It was coffee with a little cinnamon and no sugar. He usually sat near the window.
Seorang pria juga datang hampir setiap pagi. Ia selalu memesan minuman aneh yang sama. Kopi dengan sedikit kayu manis dan tanpa gula. Ia biasanya duduk di dekat jendela.
For weeks, they nodded at each other but never spoke.
Selama berminggu-minggu, mereka hanya saling mengangguk tetapi tidak pernah bicara.
One rainy Tuesday, the corner table was taken. Dahlia looked around. The only free seat was across from the man by the window.
Pada Selasa yang hujan, meja pojok sudah ditempati. Dahlia melihat sekeliling. Satu-satunya kursi kosong ada di seberang pria di dekat jendela itu.
"Is this seat free?" she asked.
"Kursi ini kosong?" tanyanya.
"Yes, please sit," he said. He smiled and moved his bag off the chair. "I'm Zane."
"Ya, silakan duduk," kata pria itu. Ia tersenyum dan memindahkan tasnya dari kursi. "Saya Zane."
"Dahlia," she said. She sat down and looked at his cup. "Coffee with cinnamon, right? I noticed it before."
"Dahlia," katanya. Ia duduk dan melihat cangkir Zane. "Kopi dengan kayu manis, ya? Saya pernah memperhatikannya."
Zane laughed. "And you always get tea with honey," he said. "I noticed too."
Zane tertawa. "Dan Anda selalu memesan teh dengan madu," katanya. "Saya juga memperhatikannya."
They talked for twenty minutes about small, ordinary things.
Mereka mengobrol selama dua puluh menit tentang hal-hal kecil yang biasa.
When it was time to go, Zane asked, "Same time tomorrow?"
Ketika waktunya pergi, Zane bertanya, "Jam yang sama besok?"
"Same table, if it's free," Dahlia said with a smile.
"Meja yang sama, kalau kosong," kata Dahlia sambil tersenyum.
The next morning, the corner table sat empty. Dahlia walked past it anyway. She sat by the window instead.
Keesokan paginya, meja pojok itu kosong. Dahlia tetap melewatinya. Ia duduk di dekat jendela.
