The Long Way Around

Ursula and Wendell drove down the coast road on vacation. Heavy rain fell all night before their trip.

Ursula dan Wendell berkendara menyusuri jalan pesisir untuk berlibur. Hujan deras turun sepanjang malam sebelum perjalanan mereka.

A police officer stood at a barrier ahead. "The road is closed past this point," he said. "Water covers the road near the bridge," he explained.

Seorang polisi berdiri di dekat sebuah palang di depan. "Jalan ditutup mulai dari sini," katanya. "Air menggenangi jalan di dekat jembatan," jelasnya.

"Is there another road?" Ursula asked.

"Apakah ada jalan lain?" tanya Ursula.

"Yes, but it takes an extra hour," the officer said.

"Ada, tetapi butuh satu jam lebih lama," kata polisi itu.

Wendell looked at the map on his phone. "Let's try it. We are in no rush," he said.

Wendell melihat peta di ponselnya. "Ayo kita coba. Kita tidak sedang terburu-buru," katanya.

They turned the car around and followed the officer's directions. The new road went through small quiet towns.

Mereka memutar mobil dan mengikuti petunjuk polisi itu. Jalan yang baru itu melewati kota-kota kecil yang tenang.

They passed farms, fields, and a row of old barns. Wendell rolled down his window and smelled the wet grass.

Mereka melewati peternakan, ladang, dan deretan lumbung tua. Wendell menurunkan jendelanya dan mencium bau rumput basah.

Ursula pointed out a rainbow over the hills. "Look at that," she said, and slowed the car.

Ursula menunjuk pelangi di atas perbukitan. "Lihat itu," katanya, lalu memperlambat mobil.

They stopped for a few minutes to take a picture. The detour road joined the highway near the coast again.

Mereka berhenti beberapa menit untuk berfoto. Jalan memutar itu bertemu kembali dengan jalan raya dekat pantai.

They reached the beach house just after sunset. They laughed about the long detour over dinner.

Mereka tiba di rumah pantai tepat setelah matahari terbenam. Saat makan malam, mereka menertawakan jalan memutar yang panjang itu.
