Sela had a new neighbor. He had a nice garden with a stone frog. The frog was gray and fat.
सेला के नए पड़ोसी थे। उनका एक सुंदर बग़ीचा था, जिसमें पत्थर का एक मेंढक था। मेंढक स्लेटी रंग का और मोटा था।
On Monday morning, the frog sat by the gate. On Tuesday, it sat under the tree. On Wednesday, it sat next to the flowers.
सोमवार की सुबह मेंढक गेट के पास बैठा था। मंगलवार को वह पेड़ के नीचे बैठा था। बुधवार को वह फूलों के बगल में बैठा था।
Sela did not understand. A stone frog cannot walk. Who moved it every night?
सेला को कुछ समझ नहीं आया। पत्थर का मेंढक चल नहीं सकता। हर रात उसे कौन हिलाता था?
She asked her friend. "Maybe the neighbor moves it," her friend said. But the neighbor was old and slow. That did not seem right.
उसने अपनी सहेली से पूछा। "शायद पड़ोसी ही उसे हिलाते होंगे," उसकी सहेली ने कहा। पर पड़ोसी बूढ़े थे और धीमे चलते थे। यह बात ठीक नहीं लगी।
On Thursday evening, Sela sat at her window. She watched the garden and waited. The sky got dark.
गुरुवार की शाम सेला अपनी खिड़की के पास बैठ गई। वह बग़ीचे को देखती रही और इंतज़ार करती रही। आसमान में अँधेरा हो गया।
At eight o'clock, the garden door opened. A small boy came out. He was the neighbor's grandson.
आठ बजे बग़ीचे का दरवाज़ा खुला। एक छोटा लड़का बाहर आया। वह पड़ोसी का पोता था।
The boy looked left and right. He picked up the heavy frog with both hands. He put it in a new place by the pond. Then he ran back inside, and he laughed.
लड़के ने दाएँ-बाएँ देखा। उसने भारी मेंढक को दोनों हाथों से उठाया। उसने उसे तालाब के पास एक नई जगह पर रख दिया। फिर वह भागकर अंदर चला गया, और वह हँस रहा था।
Sela smiled. It was a game. The boy wanted his grandpa to find it somewhere new.
सेला मुस्कुराई। यह तो एक खेल था। लड़का चाहता था कि उसके दादाजी को मेंढक किसी नई जगह पर मिले।
The next day, Sela bought a small toy frog. In the evening, she went to the garden fence. She put the toy frog next to the stone frog.
अगले दिन सेला ने एक छोटा खिलौना मेंढक ख़रीदा। शाम को वह बग़ीचे की बाड़ के पास गई। उसने खिलौना मेंढक पत्थर के मेंढक के बगल में रख दिया।
Then she went home and waited.
फिर वह घर चली गई और इंतज़ार करने लगी।
