Cover of The Wake-Up Call at Five

On the first night, Eudora went to the front desk. "Please call my room at five tomorrow morning," she said. "I have a boat tour at six."

The receptionist gave her a small piece of paper. "Please write your room number and the time," she said.

Eudora wrote, "Room 14, 5 pm." She was very sleepy, and she did not see her mistake.

She slept well. In the morning, the sun was high when she woke up. The clock said nine. The boat was gone.

Eudora ran downstairs in her slippers. "Nobody called me!" she said.

The receptionist looked at the paper and then at Eudora. "You wrote five in the afternoon," she said. "We will call you at five this evening."

Eudora looked at the paper and put her hand on her face. "Is there another tour?" she asked.

"Yes," the woman said. "The evening tour leaves at six. It is the sunset tour. I can put you on it for free."

At five that afternoon, the phone in her room rang. Eudora sat on the bed with a cup of tea.

"Good afternoon," said a kind voice. "This is your wake-up call."

"Thank you," said Eudora. "I am already awake."

At six, she sat at the front of the boat. The sun went down behind the hills. The water turned orange and pink. Eudora took thirty photos.
