Ahmed's family plans a big potluck dinner. Every person brings one dish to share. Ahmed offers to bring a salad.
艾哈迈德一家计划办一场盛大的聚餐晚宴。每个人都带一道菜来分享。艾哈迈德说他带一份沙拉。
His sister, Layla, also offers to help. "I'll bring a salad too," she says. Neither of them tells their mother.
他的妹妹蕾拉也主动帮忙。“我也带一份沙拉。”她说。他们俩谁也没告诉妈妈。
Ahmed spends the morning cutting vegetables. Layla spends her morning doing the same thing. Neither one calls the other first.
艾哈迈德整个上午都在切蔬菜。蕾拉的上午也在做同样的事。两人谁也没有先给对方打电话。
On the day of the potluck, they arrive. Ahmed carries a big bowl of salad. Layla carries the exact same salad.
聚餐那天，他们到了。艾哈迈德端着一大碗沙拉。蕾拉端着的竟是一模一样的沙拉。
"We made the same thing," Ahmed says, laughing. Layla looks at both bowls and laughs too. "We think the same way," she jokes.
“我们做了同样的东西。”艾哈迈德笑着说。蕾拉看了看两个碗，也笑了。“我们想到一块儿去了。”她开玩笑说。
Their mother looks at the table sadly. "Now we have no bread," she says. Everyone needed different dishes, not two salads.
妈妈难过地看着桌子。“这下没有面包了。”她说。大家需要的是不同的菜，而不是两份沙拉。
Ahmed has an idea right away. He runs to the kitchen with Layla. They quickly make some simple bread together.
艾哈迈德马上有了主意。他和蕾拉一起跑进厨房。他们很快一起做了些简单的面包。
They mix the flour, water, and salt. They shape small loaves with their hands. The bread bakes in the hot oven. Everyone waits and chats happily.
他们把面粉、水和盐混在一起。他们用手捏出一个个小面包。面包在热烘烘的烤箱里烤着。大家一边等，一边开心地聊天。
They bring the warm bread to the table. Everyone claps and thanks the siblings. The potluck has two salads and fresh bread.
他们把热乎乎的面包端上桌。大家鼓掌，感谢这对兄妹。这场聚餐有了两份沙拉和新鲜的面包。
