Jude and his friend Koa walk on a hill path. The sun is hot. They want some shade.
Jude e a amiga Koa caminham por uma trilha na colina. O sol está quente. Eles querem um pouco de sombra.
Koa sees a small cave by the path. "Look!" she says. "Let's go in."
Koa vê uma pequena caverna perto da trilha. "Olhe!", diz ela. "Vamos entrar."
The cave is cool and dry. It is not deep. Light comes in from the door.
A caverna é fresca e seca. Ela não é funda. A luz entra pela porta.
Jude walks to the back wall. Koa stays near the door. The air smells of wet stone.
Jude anda até a parede do fundo. Koa fica perto da entrada. O ar tem cheiro de pedra molhada.
Jude says, "Hello?" A voice says, "Hello?" Jude stops.
Jude diz: "Olá?" Uma voz diz: "Olá?" Jude para.
"Who is there?" he asks. "Who is there?" says the voice. Koa does not move.
"Quem está aí?", ele pergunta. "Quem está aí?", diz a voz. Koa não se mexe.
"Jude, I want to go out," she says. Her face is white. "Go out," says the voice.
"Jude, eu quero sair", diz ela. O rosto dela está pálido. "Sair", diz a voz.
Jude looks at the walls. Then he smiles. "Koa, it is only an echo," he says. "It says our words again."
Jude olha para as paredes. Então sorri. "Koa, é só um eco", diz ele. "Ele repete as nossas palavras."
Koa looks at him. "Really?" she asks. "Really," says the voice.
Koa olha para ele. "Sério?", pergunta. "Sério", diz a voz.
They both laugh. The voice laughs too. Koa shouts, "I am Koa!" and the cave shouts it back.
Os dois riem. A voz ri também. Koa grita: "Eu sou a Koa!", e a caverna grita de volta.
Jude shouts, "Hello, hill!" The cave says it back. Koa laughs so hard that she sits down.
Jude grita: "Olá, colina!" A caverna repete. Koa ri tanto que se senta.
They stay for ten minutes and shout silly words. Then they sit in the shade. They eat their lunch.
Eles ficam dez minutos gritando palavras bobas. Depois se sentam na sombra. Comem o almoço.
