The Doorbell That Forgot to Update

Gustavo installs a smart doorbell on his front door. It can recognize faces and say names through his phone. He sets it up in a hurry before work.

Gustavo memasang bel pintu pintar di pintu depannya. Bel itu bisa mengenali wajah dan menyebutkan nama lewat ponselnya. Ia memasangnya terburu-buru sebelum berangkat kerja.

Every afternoon, the doorbell says the same thing. "Sarah is at the door," it announces. But Gustavo's mail carrier is not Sarah. Her name is Uma.

Setiap sore, bel pintu itu mengatakan hal yang sama. "Sarah ada di pintu," umumnya. Tetapi tukang pos Gustavo bukan Sarah. Namanya Uma.

At first, Gustavo laughs about the mistake. He remembers now: his cousin Sarah lived in this house before him. The doorbell still uses her old photo.

Awalnya, Gustavo menertawakan kesalahan itu. Sekarang ia ingat: sepupunya, Sarah, pernah tinggal di rumah ini sebelum dirinya. Bel pintu itu masih memakai foto lama Sarah.

One evening, Uma knocks and waits outside. "Sorry about the doorbell," Gustavo says as he opens the door. "It still thinks you're my cousin."

Pada suatu sore, Uma mengetuk dan menunggu di luar. "Maaf soal bel pintunya," kata Gustavo sambil membuka pintu. "Bel itu masih mengira Anda sepupu saya."

"That's a new one," Uma says. "No one ever calls me Sarah," she says with a laugh.

"Baru kali ini," kata Uma. "Tidak ada yang pernah memanggil saya Sarah," katanya sambil tertawa.

Gustavo opens the doorbell app that night. He finds Sarah's old photo saved inside. He deletes it and adds a new photo of Uma instead.

Malam itu Gustavo membuka aplikasi bel pintu. Ia menemukan foto lama Sarah tersimpan di dalamnya. Ia menghapusnya dan menambahkan foto Uma yang baru.

The next afternoon, the doorbell rings again. "Uma is at the door," it announces this time. Gustavo smiles and opens the door.

Keesokan sorenya, bel pintu berbunyi lagi. "Uma ada di pintu," umumnya kali ini. Gustavo tersenyum dan membuka pintu.
